Oukro processes the skins of the calves slaughtered in the Netherlands and Belgium. On arrival, the fresh skins are first trimmed. They are then sorted according to weight and assortment. The skins are then salted* or chilled**.
* Salted: Within a half hour of arrival, the temperature of the calfskins is reduced to 7 degrees Celsius using flash freezing. The calfskins are then stored in a chilled salt buffer, before being salted in a state-of-the art salting machine. After this treatment, the skins are stored for 10 days at a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius, for the optimum preservation of the skins. Excessive salt is then removed. A final weight and quality control is carried out and the skins are lightly salted for a second time. The skins are now ready for export.
**Chilled: Within a half hour of arrival, the temperature of the calfskins is reduced to 3 degrees Celsius using flash freezing. The skins are then laid in storage containers and stored in a cold room. The storage temperature in the cold room is 3 degrees Celsius. The storage containers containing the skins are delivered to the customer the next day.

Our products are classified by weight and quality. Any variations are open to discussion, but a standard classification for skins offered on the world market is given below.
We can now supply calfskins in wet blue in TR. The tanning contracts are closely negotiated with – primarily Italian – tanneries, while taking into consideration customer requests and requirements.
In the countries where we have traditionally worked, we often collaborate with agents or importers. For a number of wholesalers, however, we trade directly. In 2004, we opened our own sales office in Dongguang, China in order to operate independently on the internal Chinese market.
What kind of salt is used for preservation?
There are many types of salt. For the preservation of skins and hides we use rock salt/sea salt. Some countries specify that this salt must contain 2% soda, in accordance with veterinary requirements.
